The Little Match Girl

It was terribly cold and nearly dark on the last evening of the new year, the snow was falling fast. In the cold and darkness, a poor little girl with bare head and naked feet roamed through the streets. It is true that she had a pair of slippers when she left home, but they were not of much use.

They were very large, so large, indeed, for they had belonged to her Mother and the poor little girl had lost them in running across the street to avoid two carriages that were rolling at a terrible rate.

One of the slippers she could not find, and a boy seized the other and ran away with it saying he could use it as a cradle when he had children of his own. So the little girl went on with her little naked feet, which were quite red and blue with the cold. In an old apron she carried a number of matches, and had a bundle of them in her hands. No one had bought anything of her the whole day, nor had anyone given her even a penny. Shivering with cold and hunger, she crept along, looking like the picture of misery.

Lights were shining from every window, and there was a savory smell of roast goose, for it was New-year's eve. In a corner, between two houses one of which projected beyond the other, she sank down and huddled herself together. She had drawn her little feet under her, but could not keep off the cold, and she dared not go home, for she had sold no matches.

Her father would certainly beat her; besides, it was almost as cold at home as here, for they had only the roof to cover them. Her little hands were almost frozen with the cold. Ah! Perhaps a burning match might be some good, if she could draw it from the bundle and strike it against the wall, just to warm her fingers. She drew one out- "scratch!" how it sputtered as it burnt. It gave a warm, bright light, like a little candle, as she held her hand over it. It seemed as though she was sitting by a large iron stove. How the fire burned! And seemed so beautifully warm that the child stretched out her feet as if to warm them, but suddenly the flame of the match went out.

The stove vanished, and she had only the remains of the half-burnt match in her hand.

She rubbed another match on the wall. It burst into a flame, and where its light fell upon the wall it became as transparent as a veil, and she could see into the room. The table was covered with a snowy white table cloth on which stood a splendid dinner service and a steaming roast goose stuffed with apples and dried plums. The goose jumped down from the dish and waddled across the floor, with a knife and fork in it, to the little girl. Then the match went out, and there remained nothing but the thick, damp, cold wall before her.

She lighted another match, and then she found herself sitting under a beautiful Christmas tree. It was larger and more beautifully decorated than the one she had seen through the rich merchant's glass door. Thousands of tapers were burning upon the green branches, and colored pictures, like those she had seen in the shop-windows, looked down upon it all. The little one stretched out her hand towards them, and the match went out.

The Christmas lights rose higher and higher till they looked to her like the stars in the sky. Then she saw a star fall, leaving behind it it a bright streak of fire. "Someone is dying," thought the little girl, for her old grandmother, the only one who had ever loved her, and who was now in Heaven, had told her that when a star falls, a soul was going up to God.

She again rubbed a match on the wall, and the light shone round her; in the brightness stood her old grandmother, clear and shining, yet mild and loving in her appearance.

"Grandmother," cried the little one,

"O take me with you; I know you will go away when the match burns out; you will vanish like the warm stove, the roast goose, and the large glorious Christmas-tree."

Then she made haste to light the whole bundle of matches, for she wished to keep her grandmother there. The matches glowed with a light that was brighter than the noon-day. And her grandmother had never appeared so large or so beautiful. She took the little girl in her arms, and they both flew upwards in brightness and joy far above the earth, where there was neither cold nor hunger nor pain, for they were with God.

In the dawn of morning there lay the poor little one, with pale cheeks and smiling mouth, leaning against the wall. She had been frozen on the last evening of the year; and the New-year's sun rose and shone upon a little child. The child still sat, holding the matches in her hand, one bundle of which was burnt.

"She tried to warm herself," said some. No one imagined what beautiful things she had seen, nor into what glory she had entered with her grandmother, on New-year's day.

Green Sea Turtle

[Classification]

Kingdom : Animalia
Phylum : Chordata
Class : Reptilia
Order : Testudines
Suborder : Cryptodira
Clade : Americhelydia
Family : Cheloniidae
Genus : Chelonia
Species : C. mydas

Chelonia mydas, or the Green sea Turtle is also known as the green turtle, black (sea) turtle, or Pacific green turtle. It is the only species in the genus Chelonia.

[Appearance]

A typical green sea turtle has a dorsoventrally flattened body, a beaked head at the end of a short neck, and paddle-like arms well-adapted for swimming. They are easily distinguished from other sea turtles because they have a single pair of prefrontal scales (scales in front of its eyes), rather than two pairs as found on other sea turtles. The fat under its carapace (shell) is greenish, hence the name "Green Sea Turtle". And adult green sea turtle can grow up to 1.5 metres long. The average weight of mature green sea turtles are 68–190 kg and the average carapace length is 78–112 cm. Even so, some specimens can weigh 315 kg or even more. The largest known green sea turtle is 395 kg in weight and 153 cm in carapace length.

A Green Sea Turtle

Unlike their close family the Hawksbill turtle, the green sea turtle's snout is very short and their beak is unhooked. Their neck cant be pulled into their carapace. As adult turtles, males are easily distinguishable from the females by having a larger tail and longer claws on the front flippers.

[Food]

The unique fact about a green sea turtle's food is that it changes from each phase of its life span. The young green sea turtle are carnivores. They eat fish eggs, mollusks, jellyfish, small invertebrates, worms, and crustaceans. They are still carvinores until they are juvenilles, but when they mature, they become onnivores. When they grow older, they are herbivores. They feed on algaes and seagreass. They eat a large ammount of them and their fat turns more greenish due to the vegetations they eat.

[Habitat]

Sea grass meadows
Green sea turtles range from tropical to subtropical areas worldwide. The most abundant ones can be found in the atlantic and pacific oceans. Since green sea turtles are a migrating species, their global distribution spans around the world. The green sea turtle is estimated to inhabit coastal areas of more than 140 countries, with nesting sites in over 80 countries worldwide throughout the year.

They lay eggs and hatched on the beach, but the mature green sea turtle spend most of their time in shallow coastal waters with lush seagrass beds, seagrass meadows, and lagoons.

[Life Cycle]

Beaches in Southeast Asia, India, islands in the western Pacific, and Central America are where Green sea turtles breed. Most of them went back to the beach where they hatch from, no matter where they live as an adult. Mating seasons vary for each population of green sea turtles.
Laying eggs
While females went to the sea to lay eggs, the males went to the sea there they hatch from to mate. After mating in the water, the female moves above the beach's high tide line, where it will dig a hole 11-22 in depth with her flippers and lay her eggs. After that, they covered again the hole with sand.

The eggs are round and white, and about 45 mm in diameter. They will hatch altogether later at night, after around 50-70 days. Then, the hatchlings will insticntively attempt to go to the water, but there are many predators waiting to hunt them, such as gulls and crabs.
A Hatchling
Those that reach the ocean will swim to the habitat they decide to live on. Juvenilles spend three to five years in the open ocean before they settle as still-immature juveniles into their permanent shallow-water lifestyle. It takes them 20 to 50 years to reach sexual maturity. Scientists believe that they are very long lived and may live to 100 years in age.

[Behaviour]

Green sea turtles spend most of their time underwater, but they still need air to breath. They can hold their breath until around 5 hours by keeping it in their lungs. The lungs permit a rapid exchange of oxygen and prevent gases from being trapped during deep dives. Green sea turtles can rest or sleep underwater. During the night while sleeping, to protect themselves from potential predators, the adults wedge themselves under rocks below the surface and under ledges in reefs and coastal rocks. Many green sea turtles have been observed in returning to the same sleeping location night after night.

Breathing

[Social Structure]

Sea turtles are rather loners, but it's not rare to see several sea turtles living in the same enviorment. Even so, while they do acknowledge that others are around they don’t seem to make it a point to communicate with them in any way, but they dont show any aggression or dislike either, as long as there are enough food for all of them to live. There are a few times though when they are seen interacting with each other. When it's time for them to migrate, they always move in large numbers, but they dont show many interactions between each other even in the pack. They also migrate to different places depending on where they hatch from. The older sea turtle usually leads the pack.

Sea Turtles interacting

The males do engage in various types of courting for the female’s attention when it is time to mate. But there are no social structure on who gets the female or which male does the female chose at all. The young sea turtles have no social structures. Even the female sea turtles have no social structure while they lay eggs in the same coast as well. Simply put, there really isn’t much of a social structure for the sea turtle. Yet this format is one that continues to work for them in a positive way. They don’t seem to be affected negatively and there is no chaos. For the most part these creatures live in harmony both alone and when it is time for them to come together as a unit.

Sea turtles are often stuck in nets

[Status]

The IUCN and CITES has listed the Green Sea Turtle as an endangered animal and it is illegal to collect, harm, or kill them. However, turtles are still in danger due to human activity. The greatest threat for the green sea turtle is from the commercial harvest for eggs and food. Other green turtle parts are also used for leather and small turtles are sometimes stuffed.

[Facts!]

1. Sea turtles are amazing swimmers, they can move from 0.9 to about 5.8 miles per hour
2. They are excellent divers too, because may reach depths of more than 3,900 ft. in order to reach food
3. It is a common myth that sea turtles cry. But it's not because they're sad. They are actually excreting the salt water from their bodies through their eyes
4. It is believed one method that males use to see who should get to mate with the female is who can raise their neck the highest
5. The largest sea turtle every found was close to 2,020 pounds and 9.8 feet long
6. They all have eyelids that offer them protection from the sunlight for their eyes. They are able to see very well in the water but not on land. They are also color blind

Musée du Louvre

Hello!!

Now i'm going to tell you about a place many people would probably already know about. What place is it? A quick guess perhaps? Well you can see it clearly from this post's title actually..

The museum's main building and the iconic glass pyramid in front of it
Musée du Louvre, french for Louvre Museum, is a very well known museum in Paris, France, and one of its landmark. The museum itself is housed in the Louvre Palace. The museum had a huge collections of arts, starting from painting, sculptures, and many objects d'arts. The total collection as in today is more than 380.000 displayed objects and 35.000 works of art.

Before actually being a museum, Louvre had a long history. When and who built the building in the first place was unknown, the oldest history known is that in the 12th century as Louvre Palace, the fortress by Phillip II. Later in the 14th century, Charles V changed the building into a residence and in 1546, Francis I modificate it in French Revulotionary style. After Louis XIV then chose to live in the Versailles Palace instead, the Louvre Palace was used as a residence for artists.
Arts are displayed even on the ceilings, mostly Classical Arts
The building was transformed into a museum in 1791, when French was having the French Revolution. During that time, the Assembly declared that Louvre will be "a place for bringing together monuments of all science and arts". The museum opened on 10th of August, 1793 with an exhibit of 537 paintings. The date itself is the anniversary of the monarchy's demise. Later, the building had a structural problem, and it was closed from 1796 until 1801.
The Museum's location
The museum is located in the center of Paris, capital of France. The neighbourhood is known as the 1st arrondissement. The building had 3 entrances; the main entrance with the glass pyramid, an entrance from Carrousel du Louvre, an underground shopping mall, and at the Porte des Lions, near the western end.

The museum had a massive collection of arts, divided into eight curratorial departments, in which each deparment had several rooms.

Some of the egyptian collections
The first department is the Egyptian Antiquities. It displays several antiques originated from egypt like mummies, papyrus scrolls, tools, clothing, jewelry, weapons, and musical instruments. It occupies room 1 until 19, including the temple rom and the. sarcophagi room. It holds more than 50.000 pieces of art, including a large sphinx in the entrance of the department.

Near Eastern department collections
The Near Eastern Antiquities department is the second newest department. It hold arts from the Arabian Penissula, North Africa, and central asia before the Islamic age. The department is divided into 3 geographic areas, Levant, Mesopotania, and Irac.

Greek, Etruscan, and Roman arts collections
The department of Greek, Etruscan, and Roman antiquities holds arts from the Neolithic ages, Cycladic period, until the Roman Empire. Most of the collections are sculptures and classical arts, but it has expanded and now it also had other stuffs like vases and other object d'arts. It is one of the earliest department the museum had.

Islamic arts collections
The Islamic Arts department is the newest department in the museum. It displays ceramics, glass, metalware, wood, ivory, carpet, textiles, and miniatures spanning 1300 years of Islamic history from Spain until Southeast Asia. It includes around 5000 works and 1000 shards. It was originally part of the decotative arts department, but later made into its own department.

Sculptures collection
Example of the sculpture exhibition, people are allowed
to take photos and artists are allowed to draw the sculptures
The Sculpture Department holds sculptures that does not belong in the Greek, Etruscan, and Roman antiquities. The department was seperated into two areas, the French collection thats located in the Richelieu Wing and the foreign collection thats located in the Denon wing. The collection overview French sculptures including the romanesque works.

Decorative arts collection
The Decorative Arts department holds various type of arts (Object d'art) from the middle ages until the 19th century. The collections include jewelries, silverwares, stained glasses, enamels, furnitures, rugs, and many more. It holds around 1500 middle-age and faience works. The works are displayed in rge Richelieu Wing and the Apollo Gallery.

Painting collections
One of the galleries for the Painting Department
The Mona Lisa is one of the most anticipated exhibit
The Painting department holds a massive collection of more than 7.500 works from the 13th century until 1848. Nearly two-thirds are painted by French artist and others are mostly from Northern Europe and Italy. One of the collection here is the painting almost everyone know about, Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. But if you take a look at the pictures above, you can see that Mona Lisa is actually really small compared to the other paintings!

Paper based print and drawings collections
The Prints and Drawings department holds thousands of works on paper. The works include drawings, prints, and illustrated books from the royal collection. The arts are displayed in the Pavillon de Flore but due to its fragileness, only some are displayed at a time.

The Pavillion de l'Horoge
Additionally, the Pavillion de l'Horoge is located on the west wing of the Louvre Palace. This building is a museum that exhibits the history of the Louvre Museum, equipped with interactive models, digital displays, archived documents, films, and artworks to help telling the story.

I think thats all for now, I hope the information is helpful and poke your interest. Forgive me if there are any mistakes. Are you interested to go to the Louvre Museum now?

Megantara Report!

Helloo!!

Last Saturday, a big event was just held by SMAN 3 Bandung, and it is MEGANTARA!

Megantara is a Cultural Festival held by SMAN 3 on 10th of September 2016. We all gather at lapangan bali on 7.00 in the morning. Then, we walk trough the streets around the area as a parade, wearing pangsi and kebaya, our cultural clothes. After we've done our parade, we return to lapangan bali.

We have to wait for quite some time for the gates to open. The parade finishes around 8-9 and the gate wont open until 11.30, so during that time we change our clothes (because who wants to go to a festival all day until the night with kebaya *cries*). I was with some of my friends that's not the comitee of the event from my class, we had lunch first to kill some time. At first we want to go to Takolada, but we end up eating Baso Tahu in gront of the school gate.

We enter the gate around 1.30 because why not. After I went inside, I met my Junior High School friends and take a look around the stands there.

We watched the Cultural Fashion Show to see my friends from my class and guess what, Hafizh, from my class, dressed with Papua Barat clothes WIN! It was amazing because his clothes was really something, but it's full of effort too.

After that there was a peformance from The Changcuters and RAN. It was fun. After that I went home. I can only say gll luck for the comitee to clean up the place afterwards, it was was really, really, messy because of the confetti.

World Tournament x Techno Festival

On 20th of August 2016, I, along with my classmates and all the students of 32018 and 32019 attended an event held by the student council of SMAN 3, World tournament x techno festival, or shortened as WTTF.

The event itself is game based event. Do you know The Amazinh Race? Yea, it's something like that. First, we got a map with some clues of the locations for the games. We must figure out what does the riddle mean. My whole class, X MIPA 5 played as a team competing our upperclassmen, XI MIPA5.

We were also equipped with two waterbaloons. They said it's our ammunition to fight against the alien. By the way, in this game, there is a plot. The plot is that our universe is in great danger and we must save it, attacking aliens is one of the things we have to do to do so.

The first game is located in Lapangan Bali, specifically in Bangsal. There, we compete in a video game called FIFA. There are 5 players each team and they play for a decided time. It was so intense. At first we seem to lose completely but suddenly we rise and then we're in the same point. Although in the end the upperclassmen's team won, it was still a great game.

The second and third game was located on the soccerfield of lapangan bali. The second one was a battle to get the most poimt in a game called Flapybird. Our class won that game!

The third one was somesore of a game of tag, i forgot the name. There, each team use 15 players and they were each given a scarf. The opponent must take the scarf from the other team's player and once your scarf is stolen, you're dead. You cant play anymore. The player with the most remaining player wins. Unless if you got the Queen's scarf. Each team decided a queen of their own. Though none of the Queen's scarf was taken, with a difference of only one player, the upperclassmen won.

The third game is located on the basketball court of lapangan bali. It's something like a quiz game about the latest technology. Somehow the class chose me to play in this game, and i'm completely clueless about technology and such. Though we somehow get a draw.

Then, we walk FAAAAAAR AWAY to taman tongkeng. There, we played the fourth game which is Building a Robot. We were prepared with some trashes like cardboardboxes and plastic bottles, and a selotype. From that, we have to create our own robot. Our class' robot is so random and I dont understand it anymore, and unfortunately we loss anyway.

Then, we continue our FAR AWAY WALK to Taman Fotografi. There, we played a game of twister. Each team gave 2 players to play and they will play a survival game of twister. If you fall, you lose. From our class, Fulvian and Hilmy played the game. After a long and hilarious game, we end up with a draw because they all survived!

After that was breaktime. Even the walk from there back to our school to take a break took some time.

The next game is played in front of the New Hall. We won the game.

After that, we played a video game called Tekken. That part was the best part! We were cheering for our friend that played the game and we were really loud. We won completely against the upperclassmen, let's just say that we rise! X MIPA 5 RISE! It was a complete 3-0 with each game 2-0. Perfect win!

Then, theres the Samyang challange, it's a competition of who can eat the spicy noodle the fastest. We lose that one.

Lastly, theres a puzzle game and it's between the whole 32019 vs 32018. Of course since theres too many people not all can join even though theres no limit of players. Anyway, in the end 32019 won because we finished the puzze first! Yay!

It's Me

Assalamu'alaikum wr. wb.

Hello, I am the writer of this blog. Let me introduce myself. My name is Shafina Putri Kamila, but you can just call me Fina. I have many other nicknames but only some of my friends use it so I dont think I need to mention it here. I was born in Bandung at 16 November 2000, for your information, that day was Thursday. I am 15 years old by now and I am a 10th grade student in SMA Negeri 3 Bandung. My class is X MIPA-5. I am the 2nd child in my family and also the youngest. I have an older sister who is 3 years older than me. Do you know the MBTI 16 Personalities? If you do, then let me just tell you that I'm an ENFP-T.

I have interest in many things and I cant really decide which is my favorite. I really like music of any kind, as long as it's not too loud, though I really like a mix of orchestral instruments and modern band instruments. They make the best combination. Sometimes even instrumental songs with that mixture can capture my heart amazingly. Sometimes I really like the lyrics of a song especially if it has a beautiful meaning, more points if they use poetic and uncommon phrases. One of the instrumental composer I really like at the moment is a Taiwanese composer named V.K. For your information, I can and enjoy playing the piano.

Another thing I really like is drawing, either traditionally on paper or digitally. For digital drawing I usually use a pen tab. It's like using a pencil on paper but the strokes will appear on the computer. For the app, I usually use Paint Tool Sai. The picture on the right is one of my drawing from July 2015. If you're interested to see my artworks, you can check my deviantArt which is Chronice.deviantArt.com.

One thing I weirdly have an interest on is mathematics. I kinda enjoy finishing questions about it, especially if I understand how to do it. Though sometimes I do feel frustrated by it, if it's really hard. But the thing that makes me frustrated the most is the fact that I'm curious to find a way to finish it instead. It's both annoying and amazing how mathematics works. Sometimes the solution is easy but we just didn't notice that it could be done that way. In my opinion, creativity is really needed in this subject.

I kinda like to make songs by myself. Most of the tunes came out spontaneously, though I had some difficulties in making the lyrics. It's either me being a perfectionist that want to have poetic lyrics or maybe I'm just not good at writing.

Speaking of writing, I'm really interested in learning another language, just any language. I understand a little Japanese and some Arabic and I've memorized Greek, Russian, Japanese (except kanji), Korean, and Arabic letters, though for Greek, Russian, and Korean I haven't learned the language yet. Maybe someday.

I really don't know what I usually do in my leisure time. Probably doing things related to my hobbies, or maybe either talking or chatting with someone. Honestly I often feel more happy just by talking to someone else especially my friends and family.

Did I write too much? If yes then I'm sorry. Anyway, I think that's all I'm going to write here for now. Thank you for reading!

Wassalamu'alaikum wr.wb.
